Frequently Asked Questions

What’s a good soap for men?

  1. It depends on the person. Masculine people tend to lean towards cedar, patchouli, citrus soaps like lemon lime, coconut lime and oatmeal tangerine {insert links here}

  2. Fragrances are unique to people’s preferences and their experiences.  If you’re really unsure you can purchase a mini box that comes in 2 sizes one that contains 9 minibars and the other that contains 24 minibars.

Are your soap vegan?

We have one soap that contains honey from our friends just outside of Tara, Ontario. Their business is Ackroyd’s Honey, Glen the owner is very kind to his bees. The rest of our soaps are considered vegan.

Who make’s the soap?

Sierra:

  1. My mom has been making the soaps since 1987 and I take the credit.. Muowahahahah

  1. In the early '80s, my mom, Karen Kimpel, attended Guelph University for forestry, botany, and biology. Back then, most job opportunities were coming from ‘Monsanto’. Not wanting to go that route, she aimed to understand why certain weeds were so resilient and how indigenous plants could benefit people. With her knowledge, she began to grow and harvest her own herbs and flowers, making handmade soap that benefited a wide variety of skin types.

Are the soap bars considered facial soaps?

All of our soaps are safe for your face, with rosemary being the only exception; it contains dried pieces of rosemary, which are perfect for gardeners' hands and cleaning under your nails but may be too abrasive for your face. All the bars are olive oil-based, which is exactly what your skin craves.

Where are your products made?

Everything we create is made right here at our location in Paisley, Ontario. We craft our soaps in our historic building on Queen Street, which is a stones throw away from both the Saugeen and Teeswater rivers. We gather many of the plants and herbs used in our products from the properties of friends and family around the area, and some even come from the herb garden in our backyard.

What’s the difference between an essential oil and a fragrance oil?

An essential oil captures the very essence of a plant's fragrance—its distinctive natural scent derived directly from its source.

Defining a fragrance oil, however, is a bit more complex. For example, our 'wild mint' fragrance oil is a mixture of peppermint and spearmint essential oils. Despite being composed entirely of essential oils, its classification shifts to a fragrance oil due to the blending process.

Often, fragrance oils are combined with nearly scentless carrier oils like jojoba, enhancing their usability. Pure vanilla essential oil, for instance, resembles a tar-like substance, making it impractical for direct application on skin or use in diffusers. Thus, we opt to use it as a base in our fragrance oil to ensure it is manageable and enjoyable.

Some fragrance oils are diluted to reduce costs without compromising their effectiveness or aromatic quality. This approach allows us to offer these delightful scents at a more affordable price, ensuring both quality and value for our customers.
